Drivers headed downtown to the Korean Veterans Boulevard area might want to start taking a new route.
Road work begins on Tuesday for the next 11 months.
Two lanes of 8th Avenue South at Lafayette Street will be closed, which leaves only one lane going to-and-from downtown.
Lafayette Street is also going down to one lane.
Public works recommends commuters try different routes to get to their destination to avoid traffic.
Construction is expected to conclude around December 2012. Road work includes adding a roundabout and a center divide as well as installing storm drainage in the area.
Could year-long construction hurt area businesses?
Workers at "Arnold's Country Kitchen," located on 8th Avenue South, said they fear that the road closures will hurt their business this year. The establishment has been open for 32 years and relies heavily on business from the lunchtime crowd.
"We feed between 300-500 people a day. It's a long time for anybody's business to maintain a 20-30 percent hit. Let's just hope people figure another way around (the construction) or go to lunch longer," said owner Kahlil Arnold.
