Man, child killed in Spring Hill wreck

Posted: Updated:

Two people, including a young girl, lost their lives Thursday in a tragic car crash in Spring Hill at Buckner Road and Main Street.

Mark Ahlberg, 50, died after his vehicle went over the curb of a Daily's parking lot, crossed an embankment, then landed on top of a family's SUV. Investigators said he may have had a medical emergency, causing the crash.

Three people were inside that SUV, a father and his two daughters, a 10-year-old and 8-year-old.

10-year-old Cameron O'Reilly died from the impact, and her younger sister, Abigail, who was in the back seat, was flown by helicopter to the hospital with a broken collarbone. She was later released from the hospital.

A clerk inside the convenience store was looking out the window and saw the man drive through the parking lot, then saw his head bob down, she says.

His car then sped up and went over the curb.

The clerk has CPR training and ran to help him, but there was nothing she could do. He died in her arms.

"I held his head. He was gasping for breath. I tried to treat him to the best of my abilities until the EMTs came," Angie Armato said.

The cause of Ahlberg's death is not known, and an autopsy has been scheduled.
