NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Drivers need to find another way around the Interstate 24 and Interstate 65 ramp on Friday morning.

A fatal car crash closed the popular ramp around 2 a.m., when officers found a car in a ditch.

Police responded and found a flipped vehicle off the Interstate.

The car had slid down a steep embankment and was lying on its roof.

The male driver was ejected from the vehicle and was found under the rear of the car.

The victim was treated on the scene and rushed to Vanderbilt Hospital with serious injuries.

The female passenger died on the scene.

Officers received multiple 911 calls around 12 a.m. from a man in distress.

Dispatchers couldn't match the man's location, although they tried to research the call.

Police believe the male victim was the person who called 911, but they found him two hours later by chance, when an officer saw the car in the ditch.

Officers are still investigating the scene.

The ramp from interstate 65 North to I-24 East is closed.

Channel 4 is on the scene and will continue to bring live coverage on the progress.
