Christmas came early for Baptist Hospital. It got a $5 million donation - its largest donation ever - on Tuesday.
Debbie Craig donated the money from her family's organization called the Deborah and C.A. Craig II Family Foundation.
Baptist Hospital doctors are already looking forward to putting that money to use.
"We're excited, and we're grateful and we're thrilled," said Dr. Brian Wilcox, of Baptist Hospital.
Debbie Craig's late husband, Neil Craig, was a patient at the hospital and underwent wound care therapies before his death two years ago.
Now, Debbie Craig is giving back to the hospital. The money will go to a new wound care service center downtown, located right behind Baptist Hospital.
According to Wilcox, it will only add to the hospital's healthcare services.
"The word we're using here is 'transformational,'" he said. "We're already a regional leader in wound care, but this facility will allow us to greatly expand in what we're doing and do it much better."
Construction will begin on the project in a couple of weeks, while the center is expected to open in November 2012.
It will even be named after Neil Craig, called the Craig Center for Advanced Wound Healing at Baptist Hospital.
