Metro Council approves LP Field upgrade plans

Posted: Updated:

The Metro City Council has given its final approval to the upgrade plans at LP Field.

The vote at Tuesday night's meeting was for bonds to cover the $28 million plan. The Nashville City Paper reports that the vote passed 33 to 3.

New high-definition video boards, sound system improvements and extra elevators will all be in place by the kickoff of the 2012 football season.

Upgrades include:

* A high-definition scoreboard that will be four times the size of the current board
* A hospitality area to host sponsors
* A fan courtyard
* Six high-speed elevators that will transport fans from the lower to upper deck

The cost will be paid for by a current $2 ticket user fee that has been in place for the last two years.  No public money will be used.
