Saint Thomas to expand services outside of Nashville

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Two big names in Tennessee healthcare are joining forces.

On Monday, Saint Thomas Hospital announced a new partnership with Capella Healthcare based in Franklin.

The deal will mean four of Capella's hospitals in Middle Tennessee will be jointly run and owned.

Patients in some of these smaller hospitals will now have access to cardiac, neurology and other specialty care provided by Saint Thomas.

Hospital leaders say it will also help keep information in one place.

"Our goal is what's called "One patient, One chart," which is whenever a caregiver sees a patient, all the information is at their fingertips," said President & CEO of Saint Thomas Mike Schatzlein.

Leaders hope the program cuts down on the duplication of treatment and unnecessary trips to the emergency room.

The new partnership should be up and running by March.

Capella operates hospitals in the following Middle Tennessee towns:

* DeKalb Community Hospital in Smithville, TN
* River Park Hospital in McMinnville, TN
* Stones River Hospital in Woodbury, TN
* White County Community Hospital in Sparta, TN
