Expect more holiday traffic at popular shopping spot

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

The holiday season will not be the only thing backing up traffic in Green Hills this year.

Abbott-Martin Road is an already busy street that leads right into the Mall at Green Hills. But this holiday season, shoppers can expect to see even more congestion there due to a sidewalk project.

Metro Public Works are encouraging drivers to avoid the road if they can, while the new sidewalks are being installed there. Drivers will be inconvenienced, but some on foot say it's worth it. While some may be asking why do the construction now, Metro Public Works says stopping would just cause more delays down the road for a much needed project that's been years in the making.

Metro Public says they are doing what they can to ease holiday congestion by making signal adjustments to lights at busy intersections of all major shopping malls, Target, Kmart and Wal-Mart stores. There will also be police officers out to help direct traffic.
