MURFREESBORO, TN (WSMV) -

Police had to wrestle a baby out of the arms of a Murfreesboro man after authorities said he tried breaking his neck.

Glenn Climer Jr. was arrested Monday at Middle Tennessee Medical Center.

Hospital security called police when they found Climer holding a 13-month-old baby in a blanket and was refusing to cooperate with them.

When police arrived, Climer was in a car with the infant.

Police said he showed them a bruise under the baby's eye and claimed the child's mother did it.

When police asked him to take the baby to the emergency room, he then wrapped his hand around the child's neck and head and tried breaking the baby's neck, said police.

"They jumped into the car and began to wrestle with Mr. Climer and freeing the baby from his arms. In doing so, Mr. Climer put up a pretty good fight with the officers and the security guards. We were able to take him into custody and rescue the child," said Murfreesboro police spokesman Officer Kyle Evans

The Department of Children's Services is working with police to make sure the 13-month-old is safe.
