Man charged with fatally shooting pregnant girlfriend

A man was charged with shooting and killing his pregnant girlfriend and her unborn child in Hermitage early Sunday.

The boyfriend, identified as Jordans Benoit, 32, has been charged with criminal homicide and was being held on half a million dollars' bond.

The shooting happened at about 2 a.m. at a home on Raintree Place.

Metro police said the woman, Almise Derilus, 44, was shot in the neck by Benoit during a fight over their relationship.

Derilus was transported to Vanderbilt Medical Center, where she later died, police said.

Derilus was 8 months pregnant and her fetus did not survive, according to investigators.

According to officers, the man was devastated.

Derilus' best friend, Navalie Elvarez, said that the suspect worked as a security guard, and that's why he had a gun at the home. Elvarez added that her friend had talked about kicking Benoit out of the house they shared, and she thinks that is one reason why he opened fire. She had strong words about the suspect, though. "I hope he rots in hell," Elvarez said.

Channel 4 News has learned that a child was in the home at the time of the shooting.

That child was not hurt, and remained in the custody of the state Department of Children's Services.
