Troops return to Fort Campbell in time for Thanksgiving

Posted: Updated:

Talk about a story just perfect for the Thanksgiving holiday. Dozens of families anxiously waited at Fort Campbell late Wednesday night for their soldiers to arrive home.

Fifty soldiers from the 101st Airborne Sustainment Brigade returned safely to Fort Campbell after spending more than six months in Iraq.

For many of these soldiers, it was their second or third deployment to the Middle East, but they are home just in time for Thanksgiving with their loved ones.

An additional 100 soldiers are due to return Sunday to Fort Campbell around midnight.

Some 2,000 troops are still serving in Afghanistan, all part of the 101st Airborne.

They are expected back in the U.S. no later than February 2012.
