CHATTANOOGA (UTC) -- The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga linebacker Ryan Consiglio was named the Southern Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.

Consiglio capped off his four years at UTC with a career-high 19 tackles in a tought 28-27 loss to No. 12 Wofford last weekend.

Consiglio recorded 13 solo stops and was credited with six assisted tackles, including one tackle for loss. His 19 tackles tied for the third highest single-game output in the conference this season. The senior finished 2011 with a league-high 120 tackles. His 10.9 tackles per game average is tied for No. 15 in the nation.

Saturday's performance was Consiglio's 10th game of at least 10 tackles this season and was the highest single-game total for a Moc since 2001. The Franklin, Tenn., native finishes his career sixth on UTC's all-time tackles list with 321.

Consiglio is a big piece of the Mocs' unit that leads the SoCon and is No. 13 in the nation in total defense, allowing 305.3 yards per game. He also represents the 11th weekly honors for Chattanooga this season, extending the Mocs' school record for awards in one year. UTC also leads the SoCon with its 11 weekly honors in 2011.

This is the third Defensive Player of the Week honor in Consiglio's career. He also won the award once in each of the previous two seasons.
