HOPKINSVILLE, KY (WSMV) -

A Hopkinsville police officer has been arrested on charges of driving drunk with his two young children in the car.

According to the Kentucky New Era, the Christian County Sheriff's Department said Officer Tim Leyenaar was arrested Thursday night on the Eagle Way Bypass.

Although the police report did not mention the two children, Christian County Sheriff's Department Captain Chris Miller said Leyenaar had his 2-year-old and 5-year-old children in the vehicle when he was arrested.

Hopkinsville Police Chief Guy Howie said Leyenaar was suspended Thursday night and will remain without his police powers until an internal investigation is completed.
