NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- The gun season for deer hunting is open in Tennessee.

In a change from past years, there is one continuous season, beginning Saturday and ending after Jan. 1, 2012. There had previously been two segments of the hunting season.

Hunters born since Jan. 1, 1969, must carry proof of completing hunter education class or have the Apprentice Hunting License (along with other required licenses) while hunting any species in Tennessee.

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency rules allow hunters to take one antlered buck per day until the statewide bag limit of three is reached. An antlered buck defined as having an antler at least three inches long.

The antlerless deer bag limit varies with the area being hunted.
