Proposed crematory would be safe, says study

Posted: Updated:

City leaders in Spring Hill are moving closer to their first vote on a controversial crematory.

The fight over plans to add a crematory at Spring Hill Memorial Park and Funeral Home has been ongoing for months.

People who live near the funeral home are worried about the health effects of possible mercury release and the effect on their home values.

The Spring Hill Board of Mayor and Aldermen has delayed action on the proposal, instead commissioning another round of environmental studies.

Channel 4 news partners, the Columbia Daily Herald, report that the results from the latest study are in and the company who did the testing says a crematory would be safe.

The ordinance allowing a crematory will have its first reading next Monday.
