Friday's recipes (11/4/11) - Aimee Fortney's three cheese ravioli, frozen orange dream dessert martini

My Mom ate at an Italian restaurant and loved the cheese ravioli with Italian Sausage so much that she decided she could make it at home.  She did, I did, and now you can, too!
1 pound mild Italian Sausage, cut into bite size pieces
1 package three cheese ravioli (found in the freezer section)
1 can or jar of your favorite spaghetti sauce or marinara sauce
1 pint heavy whipping cream
1 onion, diced
1 red bell pepper, diced
Fresh basil, if desired
In large pot, boil 5 quarts of water and add ravioli.  Cook for seven to nine minutes.  Saute sausage, onion and bell pepper until sausage is done.  Remove from pan.  To pan add sauce and heat until warm.  Add cream and stir until incorporated into the sauce.  Add sausage mixture.  Add chopped basil if desired.   Drain ravioli.  Put desired about of sauce over ravioli.

When I was a little girl I loved orange treats.  My Granddaddy used to buy the orange sugar candies for me, and I loved the Creamsicle ice cream treats.  Each and every time that I went to Opryland, my favorite part about being there was the Frozen Banjo treat.  This is my grown up version of that banjo dessert and it also reminds me of the orange candies my Granddaddy would buy for me.  An orange slice or an orange slice candy is the perfect garnish for this dessert drink!

½ cup frozen orange juice
½ cup vanilla ice cream (or a couple of scoops is even better!)
2 to 3 shots vanilla vodka
couple of ice cubes

Combine all ingredients in a blender, and blend until smooth.  Serve in a frozen (or chilled) martini glass, garnished with an orange slice.
