MURFREESBORO, TN (WSMV) -

The city of Murfreesboro hired a contractor Thursday night to prepare a site for a possible Amazon.com distribution center.

Channel 4's news partners at the Daily News Journal report that the City Council picked the lowest bidder, Plateau Excavation of Austell, Ga., to perform the grading, sewer, drainage and utility work at the site.

The $7.2 million project will prepare the way for a $1.3 million square-foot warehouse on Joe B. Jackson Parkway.

The distribution center development would potentially bring more than 1,100 jobs to Murfreesboro.

Amazon has not made a final decision on where to build its distribution center.

The contractor doing the work in Murfreesboro is the same group that prepared the site for Hemlock semiconductor in Clarksville.
