Prominent animal defender no longer asst. district attorney

McMINNVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A local attorney known for prosecuting animal abuse cases is no longer the assistant district attorney in McMinnville.

Josh Crain has been named a "top 10 animal defender" by the Animal Legal Defense fund for two cases he prosecuted.

One is the abuse of a Siberian husky named Lucas. Lucas's owner was eventually convicted of animal cruelty for filing the dog's teeth down to the nerves.

Crain's boss, the district attorney general, confirms he is no longer an employee in her office.

She called it a personal issue but would not elaborate.
