245 marijuana plants confiscated from home

Metro police made a large drug bust in East Nashville early Wednesday after officers smelled marijuana.

"The officers were out on a traffic stop, and as they were trying to list a cross-street they walked up the street and detected the odor of marijuana," said Sgt. Christopher Bryant.

According to Bryant, police executed a search warrant at a home on Chester Avenue, where officers found 245 marijuana plants.

"I've been a police officer for 13 years, and I've never run across this many in one location," Bryant said.

Investigators said the marijuana was worth tens of thousands of dollars.

Jessica Tate and Joseph Janos are both charged with manufacturing marijuana within 1,000 feet of a school.  They are each in jail on $125,000 bail.

Inside the 1,000 square-foot home, ceiling lights were hung to help the plants grow and the kitchen table was a cutting board for the drug.  Chemical components cluttered the countertops, vents were installed inside the brick chimney and kiddie pools were used to water the plants.

The landlord of the home and several neighbors said they had no idea that Tate and Janos were growing the drugs.

Police said there was so much marijuana in the house that there was barely living space left in the small home for the family.
