Williamson Co. growing faster than office space is added

Posted: Updated:

Here's something that may surprise you, given the economy. While most places are having trouble attracting new business, Williamson County can't keep up with its growth.

In fact, so many new companies are moving in, there isn't enough office space for some companies who want it.

"It's kind of amazing. In this economy, that's the last thing you think you'd have an issue with," said Matt Largen, with the Office of Economic Development.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics ranks Williamson County as eighth in the country for job growth last year.

And progress isn't slowing down. Since July the county has announced about 1,000 jobs could come to town.

To make room for growth, one developer is working on a new office space and is so confident in the county they aren't even sure who is going to move in yet.

"Nervous, but a little excited. We've got a great staff that leases our buildings, that manages our buildings. We're hands-on, so that really encourages us for what the future holds," said Jeff Haynes, with Boyle Investment Co.

It's a risky move, but it is a move they are taking at the Goose Creek area off I-65.

Soon, the present pile of dirt will be converted into Berry Farms. It will include homes and retail space, and Haynes says that area will be the next wave of office development in the county.

"We really have confidence in the fact that corporations are still moving here and there are big blocks of space," said Haynes.

The problem Williamson County has is one many other communities dream of, and leaders are working quickly to keep up with demand.

"There are opportunities coming down the road," said Largen.
