Fire, smoke damage 4 Bellevue townhomes

Posted: Updated:

Four townhomes were damaged at the Madison at Ridgelake complex in Bellevue Monday morning, according to crews with the Nashville Fire Department.

The two-alarm fire was reported at about 7:30 a.m. at Spring Creek Drive. The complex is located just off of Old Hickory Boulevard.

Two units were damaged by fire and two others by smoke.  A firefighter at the scene said the blaze started outside of the home.

Residents were home when the fire started and smelled smoke.

No injuries were reported.

Twelve units were destroyed or heavily damaged at the same complex on June 3.

Red Cross urges fire safety

The Red Cross said they responded to 30 percent more house fires than usual last winter.

The organization said more fires are likely to flare up as colder days and holidays begin.

"Christmas lights, so many things that can cause fires. We want you to know what you can do at home is to have a plan," said Cynthia Kelley with the Nashville Red Cross.

Cooking is the No. 1 cause of house fires and fire injuries across the country, according to a recent study.

To keep the number of fires under control, this winter the American Red Cross is partnering with the Nashville Fire Department to reinforce the fact that 95 percent of house fires can be prevented.

The Red Cross said they hope raising awareness early this year will make Nashville a safer city this winter.
