HOHENWALD, TN (WSMV) -

Two teenagers were arrested after a Hohenwald police sergeant was shot Tuesday night.

Officer Robert Fransen, a 10-year veteran with the police department, was shot at about 10 p.m. on Columbia Highway during a traffic stop.

The shooting occurred when Fransen stopped a driver, Colby Spears, on a drug-related incident, according to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.

During the traffic stop, Carmen Jose Sharp, 18, and Tyler Thomas Hunter, 19, drove by in a separate vehicle and fired on the officer, according to a TBI news release. Fransen was hit with one round that struck him in the hip.

Including Spears, who is charged with drug-related offenses from the traffic stop, the teens were taken into custody. Sharp and Hunter will face one count each of attempted criminal homicide.

Fransen was released from Maury Regional Medical Center in Columbia after receiving treatment.
