Female teacher arrested in Gallatin on rape charge

Posted: Updated:

A female teacher in the Sumner County School System was arrested Tuesday morning and charged with statutory rape.

Gallatin police arrested Devri Ann DePriest, 25, of Franklin, KY, and charged her with one count of Statutory rape by an authority figure.

Gallatin police received information Monday about an inappropriate relationship between DePriest and a student.

DePriest is a band teacher at Rucker-Stewart Middle School in Gallatin and also helps with the Gallatin High School band.

According to the Gallatin Police Department, DePriest had a sexual relationship with a boy in the high school band last year. The student was 16 when the offense occurred, and is now 17, according to Gallatin police officer Bill Storment.

Gallatin police said the boy's mother brought him to the police station Monday after learning of the affair.  Police said they recorded a phone conversation between the boy and DePriest, during which she admitted their sexual relationship.

According to a police affidavit, the teacher and student had sex about 20 times at her apartment complex in Gallatin last fall.

DePriest's social media sites indicate she's a graduate of Vanderbilt University.  She plays horns with the Nashville Wind Ensemble and is on the brass staff with the Music City Drum and Bugle Corps.

DePriest is free on $15,000 bond.
