Highland Rim race car driver released from hospital

Posted: Updated:

A race car driver who crashed his car at Highland Rim Speedway in Robertson County last night has been released from the hospital.

Bobby Hamilton Jr. said David Lassiter was released Saturday night, and is doing just fine. "He's actually heading out for a boating trip Sunday, " Hamilton said.

In the Rim Runners Division, Lassiter took a sharp turn that led to the crash, and left him pinned against a concrete wall.

Davidson County Rescue Squad paramedics found Lassiter unconscious behind the wheel, and crews had to cut him out of the wreckage. He was airlifted to the hospital.

Paramedics first thought he may have broken his neck, but Lassiter has regained consciousness and feeling in his limbs.

Workers at the racetrack said Lassiter races there nearly every week.
