Police say pastor steals pills

Posted: Updated:

The video begins with three knocks on a door. But people who know Smyrna pastor Rickey Reed say the rest is unbelievable. Reed is a pastor at First Free Methodist Church. Last July a church member set up this hidden camera when she noticed pain medication was missing from her home. The Lortab pills would disappear whenever she was away. The video shows Reed knocking on the woman's back door, and then Smyrna police say he attempts to break in.

"He looks around to see if anyone is there, he will grab what we believe is a credit card and slip it into the door handle," said Sgt. Bobby Gibson.

The church member showed the video to police and filed a report. Reed turned himself in about a month ago. He is currently out on bail.

"We believe we have other victims because of the church, though some are hesitating to come forward," said Gibson.

Vera Petty, a neighbor, says she's known the pastor and his family for many years.

"It's hard to believe we've known them since our daughters were little, they played together but we never went to church together," said Petty.

John Oldham lives near the church.

"Nothing surprises me anymore, we need to get a grip," said Oldham.

No one answered when we went by the church today. A few cars were around, but the doors were locked.
