A Smyrna pastor is accused of breaking into the home of one of his church members and stealing prescription medication.

Police said Rickey Alan Reed, 55, of the First Free Methodist Church in Smyrna was caught on camera attempting to burglarize the home of a church member.

Last July the church member set up a hidden camera when she noticed pain medication was missing from her home. The Lortab pills would disappear whenever she was away. The video shows Reed knocking on the woman's back door, and then Smyrna police say he attempts to break in.

"He looks around to see if anyone is there, he will grab what we believe is a credit card and slip it into the door handle," said Sgt. Bobby Gibson.

The church member showed the video to police and filed a report. Reed turned himself in about a month ago. He is currently out on bail.

"We believe we have other victims because of the church, though some are hesitating to come forward," said Gibson.

Vera Petty, a neighbor, says she's known the pastor and his family for many years.

"It's hard to believe we've known them since our daughters were little, they played together but we never went to church together," said Petty.

John Oldham lives near the church.

"Nothing surprises me anymore, we need to get a grip," said Oldham.

Anyone suspecting Reed of burglarizing their home is urged to contact Detective Kevin Krieb of the Smyrna Police Department at (615) 459-9742, Ext. 5148.
