CLARKSVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A car accident in Clarksville killed one man and sent another to the hospital late Saturday night.

Local resident Andrew Carter, 21, was traveling in a Chevy Silverado on Providence Boulevard.

For some unknown reason, he crossed into oncoming traffic and hit the driver of a Nissan pickup truck.

The driver of the Nissan tried to swerve to avoid the collision, but wasn't successful.

Officer Tim Edwards was traveling in front of the man who was hit and witnessed the crash.

The officer himself was almost hit by the Chevy Silverado head-on, but used a maneuver to avoid a collision.

The 51-year-old man driving the Nissan immediately died at the scene.

Carter was transported to the hospital, checked, and released.

It's not determined if alcohol was a factor, but the investigation is ongoing.

The lead investigator for this case is Officer Melissa Spielhagen.

Anyone that witnessed the collision is asked to call the TIPSLINES, 931-645-8477.
