Crime Stoppers: Subway Robber and 'Person of Interest'

Posted: Updated:

Chattanooga Police have been working the Highway 58 corridor quite a bit, lately, and they need your help clearing a case from last month. On Monday, September 19th, a masked man entered the Subway sandwich shop just before 10PM. "When he walked in, he pulled a gun out and pointed it right at the clerk and demanded money," said CPD Officer Nathan Hartwig.

In these pictures he provided, taken from surveillance video, you can see the hold-up pretty clearly. But, because of the ski mask, all that can be said of the band guy is that he appeared to be a white man with a skinny build. There were few clues to follow up on, until officers noticed something. "Investigators, after the robbery, were reviewing the surveillance cameras," explained Officer Hartwig, "and a couple of hours before the robbery occurred, had this footage of a customer that came into the Subway, went to the bathroom and then left right away."

Police call this guy, who appears to be 18 to 25 years old, a person of interest. About two hours before the robbery, he entered, went to the bathroom and left. That was suspicious activity, considering the location of the restaurant in a stand-alone building with a dry cleaners along Highway 58.

This guy appeared to be skinny, wearing all black and carrying a bag much like the robber would produce just a few hours later. Could it have been the criminal casing the joint? "Yeah," Hartwig confirmed. "We're thinking they might be one in the same."

Study these pictures. If you know anything about this robbery, or about the "person of interest," your information could get you some free cash. Call Crime Stoppers: 698-3333. No one, not the bad guys, not your friends, not even the police will ever know it was you who provided the tip.
