Private memorial service set for Mike Heimerdinger

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - The family of former Titans offensive coordinator Mike Heimerdinger will hold a private memorial service for the longtime NFL assistant coach on Oct. 14 in Tennessee.

Heimerdinger, 58, died Friday night in Mexico where he was receiving experimental treatments for a rare form of cancer.

His wife, Kathie, issued a statement Monday thanking both the Nashville and national football community along with fans for their support and love. She also asked for support allowing the family to grieve privately with family and friends at Heimerdinger's memorial service.

The date of the memorial service in Nashville coincides with the Titans' bye week. A team flag in front of the Titans' offices flew at half-staff Monday in Heimerdinger's memory. He also worked for the Denver Broncos and the New York Jets.
