Suspect sought in Saturday's fatal shooting

Posted: Updated:

Metro police are searching for a person they believe was involved in a fatal shooting in east Nashville Saturday afternoon.

The shooting happened just after 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the James Cayce Homes.

Police say Dejauntae Moore, 20, was found dead inside one of the apartments off Sylvan Street. His step brother, Taurus Williams, 15, was also shot.

Police say Williams tried to run from the apartment, but collapsed on the street outside. He was taken to Vanderbilt Medical Center in critical condition.

Arrest warrants charging criminal homicide and three counts of attempted criminal homicide have been issued against Charzelle Swafford, 21, in connection to the shooting.

Swafford reportedly argued with Moore on Friday night and knocked on the back door of the apartment Saturday at 12:45 p.m.  When Moore opened the door, Swafford is accused of firing multiple shots at Moore, who died on the scene.

Swafford then shot Williams, who ran out the front door before collapsing nearby.  Williams remains in critical condition at Vanderbilt Children's Hospital.

Swafford allegedly ran upstairs and attempted to shoot two other teens but the gun did not fire.  Swafford, who has previous convictions for theft and drug possession, fled on foot, said police.
