Nashville Sounds exploring options for new stadium

Posted: Updated:
NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Officials with the Nashville Sounds have hired a consulting firm to help choose a location for a possible new stadium.

Populus, a sports consulting firm, has been asked to evaluate four potential sites. They include the historic Sulpher Dell near the state capitol, which was the site of the old Nashville Vols stadium in the early days of baseball in Nashville.

The other possible locations are in East Nashville along the Cumberland River, the South Broadway and Gulch area, and Pennington Bend off Briley Parkway.

Officials tell Channel 4 they are also asking Populus to study the option of renovating Greer Stadium, the Sounds' current home in south Nashville.

Mayor Karl Dean has said in the past he will move ahead with a new stadium only if it makes economic sense for the city.
