NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A homeless man who was discovered last week after being beaten near a downtown bridge has died.

Robert S. Johnson, 46, died Sunday after he was found at a homeless camp beneath the Jefferson Street Bridge Wednesday afternoon bleeding from his head.

Police say Johnson's attacker struck him with a large object, perhaps a rock, then left him to die.

A couple discovered Johnson and sought emergency assistance.

Johnson was transported to Vanderbilt Medical Center for treatment.

Anyone with information on the attack, including persons known to associate with Johnson, is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 74-CRIME.
