Metro police were searching for a woman's boyfriend after a shooting at an east Nashville home Thursday morning.

Officers responded to a call around 12:45 a.m. at a home on Neill Ave.  On the scene, they found Sheryl Miller, 50, shot through the abdomen.

Emergency responders treated Miller on the scene, and rushed her to Vanderbilt Medical Center where she is in critical but stable condition.

Police said the shooting was the result of a domestic dispute involving her boyfriend, 44-year-old Anthony D. Thomas.

Miller said she and Thomas had been drinking and got into an argument.  She said during the argument, Thomas grabbed a rifle and pointed it at her.  The gun discharged, although Miller said she believed the shot was an accident.  Thomas fled with the rifle before police arrived.

Detectives swore out arrest warrants charging Thomas with aggravated assault and unlawful gun possession by a convicted felon in connection with the shooting.

Anyone seeing Thomas, who is also known as Hakeem Bamani, is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 74-CRIME.
