NCAA clears Georgia freshman Caldwell-Pope
ATHENS, Ga. (AP) -
Georgia freshman Kentavious Caldwell-Pope has been cleared by the NCAA compliance office for the 2011-12 season.

The NCAA reviewed Caldwell-Pope's status following allegations he received improper benefits from a person in Columbus associated with AAU basketball and the local parks and recreation department.

Georgia's compliance office says it was notified by the NCAA on Tuesday that Caldwell-Pope, from Greenville, Ga., is eligible for the coming season.

On Aug. 9, the NCAA cleared Georgia linebacker Jarvis Jones, who also was named in the Columbus investigation.

Safety Jakar Hamilton set to transfer
Safety Jakar Hamilton is leaving the University of Georgia football team for personal reasons according to an announcement by Bulldog head coach Mark Richt.

Hamilton injured his ankle during the preseason and will miss the entire 2011 season. He told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution he needed a "fresh start" with another program, but didn't know yet where he would play next.

Hamilton, who would have been a senior this season without the injury, played in 13 games in 2010 including five starts. He recorded 27 tackles and one interception.
