Nashville Mayor Karl Dean takes oath of office to begin second term Sept. 23, 2011.
NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -
Karl Dean's new term as mayor became official on Friday after he won a second term by a large margin in last month's election.
An inauguration ceremony was held at Public Square in front of the historic Metro Courthouse at 11 a.m.
Dean said his top priority during his second term will continue to be education. He plans to announce a new goal to double in five years the amount of public school students who go on to graduate with two or four-year degrees.
Vice Mayor Diane Neighbors and the new members of the Metro Council were also sworn-in during the ceremony.
