An interfaith group on a 15-city tour stopped in Murfreesboro Monday night, speaking on the importance of religious tolerance.
Murfreesboro has been embroiled in controversy over the building of an Islamic center.
An Islamic Imam told the crowd at Middle Tennessee State University that he is proud to be an American citizen, where the rights of all religions are and must be protected.
"We are here not only to protect the Muslim Community of America, we are also here to protect the Christians of America and the Jews of America and the Buddhists of America and the Hindus of America," said Inman Yahya Hendi.
The Clergy Beyond Borders tour has covered nine cities so far and traveled 1,500 miles.
