Longtime sports radio host George Plaster confirmed to Channel 4 News that he is no longer on 104.5 The Zone.
Plaster told Channel 4 News Sports Director Rudy Kalis that he terminated the remaining two years of his contract.
Plaster had hosted the popular The Sports Zone from 3-6 p.m. weekdays on WGFX for the past eight years.
The station's website said Willy Daunic, Plaster's longtime sidekick, and Chad Withrow are now the hosts of the afternoon drive-time show. References to Plaster have been removed from the site.
The move is believed to be connected with the closing of the merger of Citadel Broadcasting, which owned WGFX, to Cumulus Media. The Nashville Post website reported that Plaster had a clause in his contract that he could opt-out should Cumulus ever purchase WGFX. According to the Post, there is no non-compete provision should there be a sale.
Plaster left Cumulus at the time to join The Sports Zone when WGFX changed its format to sports talk, but the move was held up in a contentious legal action.
