GUTHRIE, KY (WSMV) -

A train derailed in Todd County, KY on Thursday morning, causing more than a dozen cars to jump the rails, said the local sheriff's department.

The incident occurred near East Park Street when a southbound train derailed near Guthrie, KY.

"I said 'wow,'" said Guthrie resident Nathan Stanton. "I've never seen a train derailment."

From his front yard, Stanton can see more than a dozen freight cars derailed, toppled and smashed on top of each other. On the cars is the name Humburg Sud. The train belongs to CSX.

It's a scene that acted as Stanton's wake up call Thursday morning.

"I heard the clanging of the tracks," Stanton said. "The next thing I heard is just a bunch of big bangs. There was one last big bang, then it was quiet."

CSX officials on the scene declined comment on any possible causes of the derailment but did say it's under investigation and no one was hurt. No hazardous materials were onboard or leaking.

East Park Street in Guthrie was blocked at 11:00 a.m. and will stay closed for a while, said officials.
