NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

After a major renovation, Nashville's Parthenon Towers has a brand new look.

Originally built in 1970, the $6.9 million renovation includes several energy saving upgrades as well as redesigned apartments that maximize living space.

Solar panel installations at the Towers along with two other Metro high rise apartments now make Nashville-Davidson Housing Authority one of the largest solar power generators in Tennessee.

"Our goal was simple - to make them a place where we would want to live or we'd want our mothers or our sisters and brothers to live. And that's what we've done," MDHA executive director Phil Ryan said.

Nearly 300 veterans and individuals with disabilities call the Parthenon Towers home.

Some of the new perks include energy-efficient appliances and modern loft-style layouts.
