Middle Tennessee marks 9/11 with memorials, events

Middle Tennessee is hosting several memorials and events this weekend to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks.

SPECIAL SECTION: 9/11 Ten Years Later

Friday, Sept. 9:
-Murfreesboro Police and Fire Department memorial ceremony, 10 a.m., Rutherford County Courthouse
-First responders honored in ceremony, 10 a.m., State Capitol
-Red Cross Commemoration, 3:30 p.m., Nashville Red Cross auditorium (bottom floor)


Saturday, Sept. 10:
-Vanderbilt "Weekend of Service" volunteer activities, all day, Vanderbilt University campus
-Local boy scouts hold 24-hour vigil, begins 9:28 a.m., Jet Potter Center, 3414 Hillsboro Pike
-Bell Buckle memorial statue dedication, 4 p.m., Tennessee Fire Service and Codes Academy
-Heroes Tribute Evening, 4:30 p.m., Heritage Funeral Home in Columbia


Sunday, Sept. 11:

-Vanderbilt "Weekend of Service" volunteer activities, all day, Vanderbilt University campus
-Vanderbilt commemoration ceremony, 7:30 a.m., Alumni Lawn
-Franklin moment of silence, 7:46 a.m., Williamson County Courthouse
-Memorial Stair Climb, 9 a.m., Tennessee Tower
-Awards for firefighter and police officer, 10 a.m., Franklin Full Life Assembly of God, 814 Oak Meadow Drive
-Smyrna moment of silence (with sirens sounding), 12 p.m.  
-Screening of "Losing Our Sons," 1 p.m., Cool Springs Embassy Suites, 820 Crescent Center Dr.
-Summertown monument dedication, 2 p.m., Hwy. 20 and Monument Road
-World Trade Center I-beam memorial unveiling, 2 p.m., Rutherford County Sheriff's Office
-Vanderbilt interfaith prayer service, 2:30 p.m., Benton Chapel
-Nashville Public Library oral history booth, 2:30 - 5 p.m., downtown branch 615 Church Street
-Belmont University Service of Remembrance (bell will toll 2,977 times - 1 for each victim), 3 p.m.

-Ft. Campbell homecoming and wreath-laying, 6:15 p.m.
-Metro Council Remembrance Ceremony, 3:15 p.m., downtown branch 615 Church Street
