After a day of searching, the body of Elizabeth Grace Hathaway has been found.
Authorities said Hathaway went missing Monday morning from a houseboat at Hidden Harbor Marina.
Her body was found by the Rutherford County Special Operations Unit at 6:15 p.m., DeKalb County Sheriff Patrick Ray said.
She was in about 45 feet of water, near the back of the houseboat.
Hathaway was reported missing around 8:30 a.m. from her stepfather's house boat. The boat had been docked with others at the marina near Smithville.
She was last seen sitting on the front deck of the houseboat full of family members, and some were just ten feet away. When the family realized she was missing, authorities started a search of the waters as well as the surrounding houseboats and nearby parking lots.
Some family friends, who didn't want to appear on camera, said the girl was always surrounded by family, and that they kept an eye on her at all times. She was a special needs child.
The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency says the search was complicated by bad weather, as well as underground cables and electric lines. The body was first identified by sonar. She was not wearing a life jacket.
The little girl's body is now on the way to the medical examiner's office. Exactly what caused the accident is still not known.
