A major crash involving a tractor-trailer and a UPS truck shut down the westbound lanes of Briley Parkway at Dickerson Pike Thursday morning.
According to police, the crash happened around 2:45 a.m. after a semi-truck driver lost control of his truck, skidded across a road and hit a wall.
The UPS truck then crashed into the semi and blocked the road.
The driver of the semi was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The UPS truck driver was not injured.
The semi was hauling steel coils that fell off the trailer. The coils dug up pieces of the pavement and broke holes through the median dividing walls.
The Tennessee Department of Transportation said they finished repaving this exact same stretch of Briley Parkway just last week.
Repairs were complete by 3 p.m., and the road was reopened for the Thursday evening commute.
Damage to the median will take more time to repair. TDOT officials have to hire a contractor and schedule two consecutive nights when they can do repairs while causing minimal problems for drivers.
