A mother who has already lost on son in a random shooting has been hit with another heartbreaking tragedy.
Her other teenage son was killed in a shooting in north Nashville Monday night.
"We had fought, I fought, to keep them on the right path," mother Shalinda Johnson said.
Johnson's tears feel familiar. Two years ago, her 16-year-old son Marquise was shot and killed near Buena Vista Drive. Monday night, her 15-year-old son Steven was found shot a few blocks from home.
"I feel like my kids are cursed," she said. "I feel like something has got to be done and it's got to stop."
Someone found Steven lying on the ground in the 700 block of Rowan Drive, not even a mile from his house. There are reports he tried to flag people down for help, but they thought he was just a silly teenager playing. He was not. He had been shot.
Shalinda recalls dropping Steven off at school Monday. He usually catches the bus home. Neighbors heard gunshots at around 7:30 p.m.
Steven's death is the fourth since Saturday that involves violent shooting in north Nashville.
"I lost both my boys a block a part, right here in the Bordeaux area, and nobody's seen nothing," Shalinda said.
Police say that Steven has a juvenile history, but his mother says he was turning his life around. He had just gotten out of drug rehab last week.
