Several south Nashville residents were displaced by a two-alarm apartment fire early Saturday.

The fire started at about 1 a.m. at an apartment complex on Paragon Mills Road.

District Fire Chief Ricky Taylor said that flames were pouring from the rear of a building when first responders arrived.

Taylor said that firefighters immediately called for additional crews to help put the fire out.

"We were just sitting in the living room and heard somebody screaming," said resident Ashley Benefield.  "My mom looked, and it engulfed our balcony."

Taylor said they no one was hurt by the fire, which damaged 20 units.

Authorities planned to return to the scene after sunrise to examine the damage.

The Red Cross is assisting the victims.
