NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Davidson County voters will head to the polls today to vote for mayor and Metro Council seats.

The polls will be open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.

Four candidates are vying for mayor, including incumbent Karl Dean, who cast his vote Thursday morning at Hillsboro High School.

James Baxter will challenge the current vice mayor, Diane Neighbors.

Thirty-five council districts will choose a Metro Council representative, and there are five at-large seats up for grabs.

In Humphreys County, voters are voting on a new wheel tax.  Voters in Tullahoma will choose a mayor and two aldermen.

Fairgrounds Referendum

One of the hottest races isn't between two candidates, it's a referendum about the divisive fairgrounds issue and its future.

The ballot question would make it more difficult for the city to re-develop the fairgrounds property.

A vote "for" the proposal on the ballot means it would become more difficult for the city to re-develop the fairgrounds property.

Vote "against" if you want to see it re-developed with a simple majority council vote.

If the referendum passes, it would take a super-majority, or 27 votes by the council to approve demolition.
