Nashville cooling centers

Posted: Updated:
NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Metro OEM

Beginning at 1pm Wednesday and Thursday Metro OEM staff and volunteers are again deploying several mobile units throughout the county and providing cold bottled water to those in need. In conjunction with Metro OEM, Metro Police department patrol units and Nashville Rescue Mission personnel are also checking on the homeless and others who are exposed to the outside elements for long periods of time, and providing assistance where needed.

Salvation Army

In addition to these activities, the Salvation Army has activated a cooling center at Berry Street Church located at 225 Berry Street in Nashville. It will be in operation from 10am till 4pm today and tomorrow. Cold bottled water and light snacks will also be available for citizens trying to beat the heat.

Metro Parks and Recreation:

All Metro Parks community centers and golf club houses continue to serve as cooling centers until further notice. Those in need of relief for brief periods of time may sit in the lobby of a golf club house or community center during normal business hours. The Parks Department's cooling centers are aimed at: people who spend a lot of time working outdoors; the elderly and those who might not have adequate cooling in their homes.

Residents (particularly the elderly and children) and those outside for long periods are advised to stay well- hydrated by drinking plenty of water and by taking regular breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments.

Hadley, East, Hartman and Coleman Park Regional Centers are open from 6:00 a.m. - 8:30 p.m. Monday – Thursday; 6:00 a.m. -7:30 p.m. on Friday and 8:00 a.m. -12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The other 19 neighborhood centers operate from 6 a.m. - 8 p.m. on weekdays.

For information, call 862-8400 or visit http://www.nashville.gov/parks or call the individual center.
