Woman defends home with shotgun; 4 arrested

Posted: Updated:

A 68-year-old woman in south Nashville defended her home with a shotgun over the weekend after police said four men broke into her house in Woodbine.

Georgia Avo didn't want to reveal her face for this report, but she certainly doesn't mind showing you her shotgun. It saved her life.

"I knew when the door opened it was either me or them," Avo said.

Avo was in bed when she heard a noise outside her door. It was 2:30 a.m. and someone was breaking in.

"By the time I got the gun they were knocking the door down and after the third or fourth hit the door flew open and I just fired," said Avo.

Three men had forced their way inside Avo's home, but they were met with buckshot. All of them ran after the gun was fired.

"They had the intent to harm," said Avo.

The person monitoring the Avo home alarm system called the police, but by that time, Avo had taken care of the intruders.

Police arrested four men, Alberto Romo Camacho, 30, Dorian Guzman, 28, and Oliver Rodriguez, 32, Marlon Rameriz, 26, after the break-in.  Police said at least one of the men had a gun. Camacho was hit by pellets in the face and part of his right index finger was also shot off.

After the incident, the Avo home now has security doors and windows all around it. Even the patio light bulb is secured. "Bad Boy" the 14-year-old family cat is feeling safer as well, now that the truly "bad boys" are behind bars.

"I'm not proud, it's sad you have to do it," said Avo.
