A Republican presidential candidate is backtracking on statements he made about Muslims and a proposed mosque during a visit to Murfreesboro earlier this month.
Herman Cain made headlines two weeks ago when he visited Rutherford County and said communities like Murfreesboro have the right to oppose the mosque construction. He also said Muslim leaders were trying to replace current laws with their own.
However, on Wednesday, Cain met with Muslim leaders in Virginia and later issued a statement apologizing for his prior comments.
Cain is an American businessman, columnist and minister who lives in Atlanta.
