4 firefighters arrested in Houston Co.

Posted: Updated:

Channel 4 News has learned that authorities in Houston County have arrested four volunteer firefighters in connection to a series of suspicious fires.

There have been at least 10 suspicious fires in Houston County this year.

The suspects are facing charges in connection to a blaze that destroyed the McKinnon fire station in March.

Those arrested have been identified as Daryl Buttons, 20, Jeremy Mackens, 19, Michael Brooks, 20, and Robert Taylor Richardson, 20.

According to investigators, the men were volunteer firefighters for Houston County for two years.

According to the fire chief and sheriff, all four either grew up around firefighters or with them, and that's why both officials said this is so sad and maddening.

The sheriff said the young men were bored and set the fires to give them something to do, and that the men were often the first on the scene to help put out the several fires they allegedly set.
