U.S.-Russia reach agreement over adoptions

Posted: Updated:
WASHINGTON, DC (WSMV) -

There are new developments in the U.S.-Russian adoption saga that involves a woman from Shelbyville.

Torry Hanson sent her adopted son back to Moscow on a plane by himself last year because she said she couldn't handle his bad behavior.

The case caused controversy and caused Russia to stop adoptions to the U.S. for awhile.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton met with Russia's foreign minister and reached an agreement that will allow U.S. adoption of Russian children to continue but with more oversight.

The Russian government will now approve which adoption agencies it will use in the country and will continue to monitor families after adoptions.
