675-mile long yard sale comes to Tennessee

JAMESTOWN, TN (WSMV) -

The world's longest yard sale is coming to Tennessee this August.

The Highway 127 Corridor Sale is now in its 24th year and will stretch from Michigan to Alabama.

The original stretch was 350 miles and has expanded to 675 miles.

The yard sale winds its way up Lookout Mountain Parkway, enters Tennessee and continues along the Cumberland Plateau into the Bluegrass Region of Kentucky.

Along the 127 Sale Route, shoppers can find toe tapping music, arts, crafts, horses, fishing, hiking, scenery and more.

The Yard Sale started in 1987 to show that back roads had something to offer and that interstate travel is not the only option.

Headquartered in Jamestown, Tennessee since 1995, the yard sale brings people from all over to Fentress County, providing a sustainable tourism industry for the county.

The Fentress County Chamber of Commerce says that visitors are impressed by the County's natural landscape and are intrigued by the concept.

Organizers say to expect plenty of traffic during the yard sale. They say it may be bumper to bumper with everyone stretching their neck to see what is on a seller's table or in the front lawn.

They also say to expect sudden stops to occur without warning, and drive carefully and defensively.

The four day sale always begins on the first Thursday in August; this year's sale runs from Thursday, Aug. 4 through Sunday, Aug. 7. Over the years, the sale has grown in popularity, attracting visitors from every state and a number of countries.
